Rat Genome Database bookmarklet

By Simon • May 18th, 2005 • Category: Tools

Bookmarklets (small javascript program that can be stored as a URL within a bookmark) seem to be cropping up a lot recently. I did a little bit of reading and following the example on the WikiPedia page created something simple to search RGD. To use the bookmarklet drag this hyperlink to the tool bar of your favourite web browser. When you click on the link it will search RGD using any text you have selected, or if there is no text selected, prompt you to enter a search term. Pretty Cool! As an example - select this text hypertension and then click this hyperlink to search RGD for anything to do with Hypertension.

  1. Couldn’t get any of this to work in Safari. Disappointing because it sounds cool.

  2. Yup, this is a problem - it works well in Firefox on the Mac and should work on IE, etc. on Windows. Safari’s javascript implementation seems a little off at times, I still end up having to use IE 5.2 on the Mac for some sites because Safari doesnt behave…
